Rental of electrode / MMA welding machines

For electrode/MMA welding equipment you have always been able to contact Antwerp Welding Supply nv in the port of Antwerp. We are happy to assist our customers with our expertise and provide expert advice to help them choose the right welding equipment.

Our offer consists of various electrode / MMA welding machines from Kemppi with various technical specifications; from 220V to 380V, from 180A to 653A, with or without gushing options,...

Electrode or MMA welding is also known as electric welding. It is a fairly coarse welding technique where there is no need for a shielding gas. Partly because of this, it is a suitable welding technique for use in the open air. It is also a suitable welding technique for quick repairs or maintenance work because of its simplicity in use.

How does it work?

Electrode welding is also known as MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding or CEA(Choded Electrode Arc) welding. This welding technique works with a melting electrode, so there is no need for a gas.

The electrode consists of a specific core that serves as an additive material and the coating that releases gases to maintain the welding process. As soon as the welding has cooled down, you can use a chipping hammer to remove the residue left behind from the electrode, also known as slag.

When to use it?

MMA welding is ideal for short welded joints because your electrode wears off and needs to be replaced regularly. The chipping hammer process after welding also requires additional work, so the process is a bit more labour-intensive.

MMA welding is a welding technique that is recommended for working in different positions or in hard-to-reach places. This welding technique is also easy to use on site or in the open air because there is no need for an extra shielding gas.

What do you need?

You need the following minimum items for MMA welding:

  • A constant current welding machine
  • Electrodes

What materials can you weld?

Electrode or MMA welding is applicable to a wide variety of materials, except aluminum. The type of electrode you use determines the type of material on which you want to apply the weld connection.

MMA welding is slightly less suitable for thinner materials because of the coarse way of welding and can therefore burn through the base materials quickly.

What are the advantages?

The main advantages:

  • Suitable for outdoor applications as no shielding gas is required
  • Easy working in all kinds of positions: overhead, in hard-to-reach corners,.. .
  • Portable welding machine which provides a huge mobile advantage
  • Cheaper than equipment for other welding techniques

What are the disadvantages?

The main disadvantages:

  • A rough way of welding
  • Difficult to apply to thin materials
  • Slower welding technique for large welding areas because the electrodes must be replaced after they are used< /li>
  • The weld joint should be hammered cleanly with a chipping hammer
